I
build harpsichords and spinets since 1977, at first in Bologna and then
in a medieval house on the surrounding hills. Since then I built more
than 150 instruments.
I restored
some ancient original instruments, such as Padre Martini's spinet
(Civico Museo Bibliografico Musicale, Bologna), Clementi fortepiano
(Conservatory of Music, Pesaro), and some ancient private harpsichords.
The
instruments realized in my workshop are exact copies of ancient
instruments of particular historical and musical interest.
As the best
originals, they are extremely sensitive, and they give to the musician
a close connection to the produced sound.
The
construction follows philological principles in the choice of materials
and in building techniques.
Each part
of the instrument is realized in my workshop, including strings and the
pictorial decoration. The woods are naturally seasoned, and the crude
boards processed by myself.
Keyboards
and mechanics accurately reproduce the original ones.
Mattiazzo
instruments have been used for recordings and international harpsichord
competitions. They also can be found in various Italian Music
Conservatories.
